Got back from Peru Tuesday. We left the lodge on Monday at 1 arrived in Iquitos at 4, took a flight from Iquitos to Lima at 8 and arrived around 930. From Lima we took a 1240 flight to Newark, NJ and arrived at 830 am and finally at 12 we boarded our last flight and arrived in Pittsburgh at 130 and got back at school close to 3. So Peru was an awesome trip on our second day in Cusco we went white water rafting and got caught in a storm and had hail the size of marbles hitting us. When we went to Machu Picchu I climbed to the very top of Wanapicchu (I think thats spelled correct). At one point (more like several) if we would have slipped we would have fallen off of the peak to our deaths. It took us 2 hours round trip and well worth the hike. On sunday we left Cusco to Lima and the to Iquitos where we traveled of 3 hours by boat to the lodge. The lodge was amasing it was like staying in a giant tree house for a week. The staff at the lodge were really friendly and extremely funny. My first day there I went zip-lining in the canopy. I ended up getting sunblisters on my left arm which was already sunburnt really bad from rafting on our second day in Peru. When I got back to the lodge Jose put some jungle medicine (ycca) on the blisters. The blisters were gone faster than they appeared. We went Piranha fishing on our second full day. We didn't catch many because by the time we realized that the Piranha were bitting our bait, the bait was gone. THere are 3 birds that live at the lodge Chicomarlo, Pedro, and Margarita (my fav). One morning Pedro and Chico marlo decided that they were gonna team up and attack us as we exited our rooms. Last friday I went on a hike into the reserve. The hike was only suppose to be 3 hours. Well our guide wanted to show us some plants, that if we got stranded in a jungle we could survive. We were suppose to be back at the boat around 1230/1, we didnt get back til 4/430. Dr. Thomson almost died by getting stung several times by wasps. His face was swelling and he nearly passed out. The next day we hiked to a waterfall. The trip was awesome and if anyone would have the opportunity to go to Peru I would highly suggest going. But I am very gald to be back in America, where; I have hot water, I'm allowed to have ice, and its safe to have any type of food that my little heart desires. But I miss my bird Margarita very much.
